Wilson - Software Developer

Who are you? What is your job and how long have you worked at NSI?

My name is Wilson, I’m 23 years old and I’ve been working as a Software Developer at NSI for over 2 years.

What does the role of System Developer comprise?

We meet customer requests by developing the necessary solutions in the different technologies. To a certain extent, NSI’s Software Developers produce the projects’ raw product. We are well-supported to complete this task: team leaders, architects, project leaders and analysts. The projects that I am working on often involve developing company management software that gives our customers the necessary tools to run various aspects of their business. Regularly tackling new projects and technological challenges means that we constantly evolve and develop our skills.

Before joining NSI, what were you doing?

I was on a work placement at the Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC) to round off my studies. The project I was working on consisted of imagining and creating the prototype for a centralisation system to secure Belgian citizens’ private data using Blockchain. I was able to talk with the project leaders regularly, which helped developed my customer relations skills. Furthermore, during our placement at MIC, my friends and I took part in several Hackathons. During one of these competitions, we managed to win over the jury and everyone attending concerning the ambition of our project to make plots of land available to citizens to grow vegetables. In March 2018, we won two Citizens of Wallonia awards: the ‘IoT’ prize and the ‘Citizen contribution’ award.

Describe your daily work at NSI in 3 words

Communication, commitment and enthusiasm

How would you describe the working atmosphere at NSI?

Lively is the first word that comes to mind. Every day brings a dose of interesting discussions and humour, while remaining a professional environment.

What would you say about your colleagues and your managers?

It’s thanks to them that the working atmosphere is so good. I’m lucky to have open, friendly colleagues and a great team leader. They relax the atmosphere but also give advice and guidance. They back us up and support us, even when we run into difficulties.

Why did you choose to work for NSI?

I knew immediately that NSI’s working environment was what I liked; apart from the advantages and the geographic location of the building and its direct environment, it is above all the company philosophy that drew me in, particularly its ability to put its employees at the core of its concerns.

Among NSI’s values, which inspires you the most or which do you identify with, and why?

Listening and understanding

I really like explaining and describing the concepts within my work. It seems very important to me to listen and try to understand customers, colleagues or even people from outside the company to be able to ask them the right questions.

How did lockdown change your working life?

The unusual situation showed me just how much NSI cares about its workers’ well-being. I mean that they trusted and continue to trust us. This mutual trust and flexibility make it possible to evolve in a pleasant yet exciting work environment.
